Madrid Pride (MADO) 2025: Celebrate Diversity in the Heart of Madrid and Get Around with TaxMad!

TaxMad · Updated 2 July 2025 · 4 min read

Madrid is getting ready once again to fill with colour, music and joy as Madrid Pride (MADO) arrives: the great celebration of LGTBIQ+ diversity in the iconic Chueca neighbourhood and the main streets of the capital. The event, which culminates in the State Pride March (Manifestación Estatal), the largest in Europe, is a must in July. Are you ready to experience Spain's most popular party?

What Is MADO Madrid Pride? More Than a Party

MADO is much more than a simple celebration; it is "LGTBIQ+ Pride Week", when Madrid becomes the epicentre of activism, culture and fun. It is open to everyone (children, young people, older people, locals and visitors from all over the world) and has a multi-ethnic and cultural character that reflects the rich diversity of our society. This is the origin of the initiative "Pride, an example of coexistence" ("Orgullo, ejemplo de convivencia"), which aims to promote respect and understanding.

MADO's organisers (AEGAL, COGAM and FELGTBI+) put together a long and varied programme of activities every year, with both Chueca's residents and the hundreds of thousands of tourists who join the celebration in mind. MADO is also constantly working to become a sustainable, eco-friendly event

A Journey Through the History of Pride in Madrid: From Protest to Great Celebration

Pride in Madrid has a rich and transformative history:

  • 1978: The First Steps Towards Freedom. On 25 June 1978, around 7,000 people, called together by the FLHOC (Homosexual Liberation Front of Castile), took part in the first march for LGTB rights in Madrid. This milestone marked the beginning of the history of Pride in Spain, following in the footsteps of Stonewall.

  • 1980s: Chueca, the LGTBIQ+ Heart. The LGTB community settled in Chueca, turning the neighbourhood into a symbol of freedom, diversity and coexistence. The first Pride celebrations were born in its streets.

  • 1996: Here Come the Floats! Floats joined the march for the first time, blending party and protest and shaping Madrid Pride's unique model.

  • 2005: Spain, a Pioneer in Equality. Spain became the third country in the world to legalise same-sex marriage, a historic milestone in the fight for equality. In 2025 we celebrate "20 years of love", marking two decades since this pioneering law that legally recognised love in all its forms.

  • 2007 and 2017: Madrid, World Capital of Pride. Madrid hosted EuroPride in 2007 and, ten years later, WorldPride in 2017, cementing its reputation as the European and global capital of Pride.

  • 2018: 40 Years of Pride and Struggle. Four decades since the first march were commemorated, a tribute to those who started the fight and to everything achieved since then.

Get Around Pride the Smart Way: TaxMad's Recommendations

To make the most of the 2025 Pride Festivities, it is essential to plan your journeys, whether you are heading to the key spots or going back home. Please bear in mind that, because of the celebration, traffic access will be restricted in and around the Sol area.

At TaxMad, we would like to give you a few recommendations to avoid unnecessary waiting and make sure you get a fast, hassle-free service:

If you are out partying and want to go home by taxi, we recommend heading to the following meeting points, chosen strategically to make pick-up easier:

  • If you are heading to the North of Madrid: Go to Calle Sagasta.

  • If you are heading to the South of Madrid: Go to Ronda de Atocha or Ronda de Toledo, whichever is closer.

  • If you are heading to the East of Madrid: Go to Calle Serrano or Calle de Alfonso XII. A nearby landmark that makes access easier is Puerta de Alcalá.

  • If you are heading to the West of Madrid: Calle de Bailén, with the Royal Palace (Palacio Real) as a landmark, will be your best option.

Given the flow of traffic and pedestrians during the festivities, these streets will be easier to reach, so our taxis can pick you up and take you to your destination without complications.

Extra Tips for Enjoying Pride in Madrid:

  • Plan your transport: Whenever possible, consider public transport (metro and bus) as your first option, but bear in mind that timetables and routes may also be affected. For your taxi journeys, follow our recommendations.

  • Stay hydrated and protect yourself from the sun: July in Madrid is hot. Always carry water and don't forget sunscreen.

  • Respect diversity: MADO is a celebration of inclusion and respect.

  • Explore Chueca: Soak up the unique atmosphere of the neighbourhood that is the heart of Pride.

  • Join the March: It is the central and most meaningful event of the festival and a unique opportunity to show your support for diversity.
